A leading tyre company has warned van insurance policyholders that they should ensure they buy the right tyres.
The company said that because of the rise of van parts being purchased online many people are ordering and fitting the wrong kind of tyres for their van.

Many people are purchasing tyres with a lower speed symbol than they need and are also picking the wrong load index and the wrong size of tyre.

The company made the case for that although van parts and tyres might be cheaper to purchase online that safety should never be comprised.

By driving on tyres with a lower speed symbol drivers could be putting their lives at risk. The vans vehicle handling will be severely comprised and will potentially put other drivers at risk too.

The organisation said that tyre pressure should be checked at least once a month. Van drivers should also inspect their van regularly to ensure there are no bumps or dents that could adversely affect the safety performance of the vehicle.

Along with regularly checking the van for any problems, it is advised that whenever there are passengers they should be reminded to put on their seatbelt. Anybody who is regularly driving a van should also limit their mobile phone conversations while at the wheel to ensure that the safety of the driver and others on the road is not comprised.
