While this might save money in the short-term it can have a detrimental effect on future business plans. Homeowners policy insurance might cover some of the contents in your home, but it won’t cover many of the essential elements that small business insurance policies cover.

Without business insurance you won’t be covered for public liability, loss of income and if a client were injured at your home, your homeowners policy would not apply. Any equipment that you use for business purposes, such as, fax machine, photocopier and your business computer won’t be insured unless you take out a small business insurance policy. Failing to take the correct precautions means that a business can be risk.

There is the temptation from many entrepreneurs to start their businesses on a small budget and keep their expenses at a minimum. This is especially true when small business owners look for the appropriate insurance coverage. Any budding entrepreneur needs to realise that small business insurance is a tool that you can’t afford to work without.

Starting up a business is time-consuming and any business owner is likely to face tough challenges and decisions, however, failing to act and buy business insurance could have serious negative effects for your business in the long-term. Take your time to find the right policy for you and make sure you do your research into exactly what your business needs.
